KazMunayGas has acquired international renewable energy certificates I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) to reduce indirect emissions from electricity consumed. The company financed the production of clean electricity in Kazakhstan to compensate for the emissions from its work.
The volume of redeemed certificates is 8.5 million kWh. This corresponds to the expected electricity consumption by the KMG corporate center for the whole of 2022. The I-REC certificates confirm the fact of renewable electricity production. They are traded in 51 countries of the world, issued according to international standards and recognized by global organizations.
KazMunayGas has acquired certificates for the operation of a solar power plant in one of the regions of Kazakhstan. This is the first such experience in our country. The International Renewable Energy Certification Platform started operating in Kazakhstan in 2022. The ECOJER Association was chosen as the issuer of I-REC certificates.
By purchasing certificates, KazMunayGas demonstrates commitment to sustainable development and ESG principles.
For information:
The International REC Foundation (I-REC Standard) is a non-profit organization offering a reliable international standard for tracking green attributes. The I-REC standard is recognized as the basis for reliable and verifiable tracking tools by major reporting systems such as Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and RE100. Accordingly, I-REC certificates are issued based on this standard.
