The solemn ceremony of signing the agreement on the opening of a credit line between Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC and Almaty Electric Power Stations JSC - a company included in the structure of the electric power holding Samruk-Energy JSC took place in Astana. The document was signed within the framework of the project on the transfer of the Almaty CHP-2 from coal to gas. The financing will be carried out under the corporate guarantee of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund. This contributes to the improvement of credit conditions.
It should be noted that the Development Bank of Kazakhstan is one of the three banks involved in financing the project. Earlier, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has already issued a loan for creation of a new gas station. A similar agreement with the Asian Development Bank is expected to conclude in the near future.
The allocated funds will be used to modernize the Zhakutov CHP No. 2 in Almaty. The new gas station will be built on the site of the existing one, where coal is used as the main fuel today, and fuel oil is used as the starting fuel. Emissions of sulfur dioxide and ash (dust) into the atmosphere will be eliminated, and carbon dioxide (CO2) will be reduced by one and a half times.
In other words, this will not only reduce the amount of harmful emissions and improve the air quality in Almaty, but also increase the capacity of the CHP: electric - up to 600 MW, thermal - up to 957 Gcal/h. The station will include a housing of gas turbine units and a hot water boiler room. Its commissioning is scheduled for December 2026.
