On Wednesday, October 12, Astana hosted the Kazakhstan-Qatar Investment Forum, organized by Samruk-Kazyna and Kazakh Invest. It was held within the framework of the state visit of the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, to Kazakhstan. The event gathered together more than 200 delegates, including representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Baiterek Holding, Kazakh Tourism, KazSU, KazakhAgroExport, as well as Qatari companies.

Yernar Zhanadil, the Managing Director of Samruk-Kazyna JSC opened the first plenary session. He noted that Qatar’s economy is one of the fastest growing in the Middle East and in the world. At the same time, Qatar is one of the most important economic partners of Kazakhstan. According to Yernar Zhanadil, Samruk-Kazyna and the Qatar Sovereign Wealth Fund signed the agreement of intent of joint investment of $200 million. In particular, Doha has shown interest in the future IPO of Samruk Green Energy, which will include the “green” assets of Samruk Energy.

In addition, within the framework of the forum, Tau-Ken Samruk and Qatar Mining signed the memorandum of understanding on search for promising mining projects in Kazakhstan.
