Advanced technologies of the American corporation General Electric can be used in Kazakhstan in the development of modern types of energy, including nuclear and hydrogen.

The agreement of intent in the field of energy was signed in New York by the Head of Samruk-Kazyna Almassadam Satkaliyev and the President of GE in Russia and the CIS Bela Ferenczi within the framework of the investment round table with American business, under the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to the United States.

Energy for the environment

The agreement provides for cooperation and exchange of experience in the operation of modern GE gas turbines using a methane-hydrogen mixture as fuel. The GE highly efficient combined-cycle gas plants will help in the conversion of three large thermal power plants to gas in Almaty, as well as in the construction of a new gas power plant in the Turkestan region. This will strengthen energy stability and improve the environmental situation in the southern regions of Kazakhstan.
To date, the GE turbines are already used at gas turbine power plants in Karachaganak, Kashagan, Tengiz and other regions of Kazakhstan. The GE gas and dust cleaning equipment reduces the carbon footprint of a number of energy facilities, including several power units of Ekibastuz GRES-1. GE has supplied equipment for 15 KEGOC projects, including Trans-Kazakhstan power lines. In addition, GE and Eni are building a 48 MW Badamsha wind farm in Aktobe region.

Peaceful atom

Another area of cooperation with GE is peaceful atom. The signed agreement provides for the development of nuclear energy in Kazakhstan, including the use of low-speed GE steam turbines for nuclear power plants.

As the management of Samruk-Kazyna has repeatedly stressed, the project of a new nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan should be international, i.e. companies from different countries should participate in its implementation using technologies from several suppliers.

Railway and gas

Other companies of the Samruk-Kazyna Group have also signed partnership agreements with American business within the framework of the investment round table in New York. For example, KTZh and Wabtec Corporation have agreed to cooperate in the maintenance of Kazakhstani locomotives and their conversion to gas. QazaqGaz together with Honeywell will implement digitalization in the gas industry of Kazakhstan, together with Baker Hughes - to train specialists on the basis of the Shymkent Training Plant, together with Solar Turbines - to modernize the gas transportation infrastructure of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
