Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna Nurlan Zhakupov visited Almaty CHPP-2 and CHPP-3 to review the progress of the stations’ modernization projects.
During the working visit, he inspected the construction sites and discussed key issues related to the implementation of the projects.
Located in Alatau District of Almaty, CHPP-2 is one of the city’s key energy infrastructure facilities and the largest source of heat in the metropolis.
The station supplies heat to a significant part of the city, making its modernization essential to improving the reliability and efficiency of the heat supply system.
As part of the modernization, the conversion of CHPP-2 to natural gas will also significantly reduce the station’s environmental impact.
Once the project is completed, harmful emissions are expected to decrease from 37,300 tonnes to 2,700 tonnes per year — nearly 14-fold. The modernization of CHPP-2 is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
Zhakupov also inspected CHPP-3 in the Ili District of Almaty Region.
A combined-cycle gas turbine unit with a capacity of at least 450 MW will be constructed at the station, while outdated equipment will also be replaced.
Following the visit, Nurlan Zhakupov issued a number of specific instructions, emphasizing the need to strictly adhere to the project schedule and ensure the facility is commissioned on time.
