During the meeting, Zhakupov noted that Alstom is one of Kazakhstan’s key partners in the railway sector.

He also highlighted that, through Samruk-Kazyna’s procurement system—particularly its off-take contracting mechanism—the company has successfully expanded its manufacturing operations at the Electrovoz Kurastyru Zauyty locomotive plant.

The plant manufactures both freight and passenger electric locomotives. In December 2025, a contract was signed for the delivery of 205 new electric locomotives between 2029 and 2036. In June 2026, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Alstom signed a long-term maintenance agreement for these locomotives. The project will be implemented in Astana, Arys, Shu and Almaty.

The partnership between Alstom and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has helped Kazakhstan strengthen its position as Central Asia’s leading railway manufacturing hub.

Alstom (France) is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of railway transport solutions. The company has operated in Kazakhstan since 2010, building a significant industrial presence with seven facilities and a workforce of more than 1,000 employees. Alstom also serves as an observer on the Foreign Investors’ Council.
