The solemn ceremony of laying the capsule in the foundation of a new 300 MW solar power plant was held in the Sauran district.

The event was attended by Nurlan Zhakupov, CEO of Samruk-Kazyna; Nuralhan Kusherov, Akim of the Turkestan Region; Han Chunlin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kazakhstan; Ni Zhen, President of China Energy Group; Kairat Maksutov, CEO of Samruk-Energy JSC; Lin Xiaodan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CEEC Overseas Investment, among others.

This is one of the largest renewable energy projects implemented by the Fund’s portfolio company Samruk-Energy JSC in cooperation with China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. (Energy China).

The project became a part of the Kazakhstan’s strategy for the transition to the “green” economy and reducing its carbon footprint, as well as one of the first steps towards the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People’s Republic of China, signed in November 2024 at COP29.

The construction of the SPP is in an active phase and is designed for the period 2024-2027.

“The future 300 MW SPP is a contribution to the country's sustainable energy sector and a confirmation that Kazakhstan is confidently moving towards the status of a leader in the field of renewable energy sources in Central Asia”, - Nurlan Zhakupov said at the ceremony.

The new plant will be equipped with energy-efficient solar panels, modern engineering facilities, a substation and power transmission lines. An important element will be the electricity storage system, which will increase the reliability of the region’s energy supply and allow for the effective integration of solar generation into the country’s energy system.

The launch of the SPP is expected to increase significantly the share of clean energy in Kazakhstan’s energy mix, reduce the burden on the environment and accelerate the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
