The Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, Nurlan Zhakupov, visited the transshipment terminal of the KTZE Khorgos Gateway Dry Port in Almaty region, where he laid a capsule for the construction of 10 sorting tracks and the ways of the current uncoupling repair of wagons.

According to Nurlan Zhakupov, the project will increase the processing capacity of the terminal by 1.5 times - from 540 to 800 thousand containers (TEU) per year. This will improve the transit potential of both JSC NC KTZ and the republic as a whole. The dry port will be able to provide services for the formation, selection of freight trains, as well as for their storage. The latter will help to reduce significantly the shortage of empty wagons. The opening of the way of the current uncoupling repair of wagons (CUR) in the terminal itself will accelerate the supply of wagons for cargo operations. All these favorable conditions, as Zhakupov noted, contribute objectively to the increase in the port’s customer base. Since the cargo traffic growth from China to Europe and Central Asia is continuously increasing (by 20-30 percent per year) and requires constant expansion of the infrastructure of the KTZE Khorgos Gateway terminal. “The new railways will help to transport even more goods through Kazakhstan, and this is an unconditional income to the country’s budget”, - Zhakupov stressed at the meeting with journalists.
