Such agreements were reached today at the meeting of the Head of the Fund Nurlan Zhakupov and the Akim of the region Marat Sultangaziyev.
According to the Head of Samruk-Kazyna, the Fund is currently implementing large-scale energy projects in the region. For example, new gas-fired CHP-2 and CHP-3 are built in Almaty next to the existing coal-fired ones. The capacity of the gas CHP-2 will be 600 MW, CHP-3 - 545 MW. A new Kerbulak HPP will be built on the Ili River. It will create a reservoir that will increase the capacity of the existing Kapshagai HPP by 110 MW. In addition, it is planned to expand the Shelek wind farm with a 5-fold increase in capacity to 300 MW. Thus, the new energy facilities of Samruk-Kazyna should provide additional more than 1 GW of electricity.
“The region can become one of the largest energy hubs throughout Central Asia. First of all, its capacities should be aimed at meeting the energy needs of the Almaty region. The demand in the domestic market is constantly growing. The surplus needs to be exported. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan already have a huge interest in our clean electricity”, - Nurlan Zhakupov said.
He personally visited the park of solar power plants near the Konayev city and Kapshagai HPP. The manager noted that the HPP is the main source of maneuverable power now in Kazakhstan. They cover peaks in electricity demand when solar and wind power generation becomes unstable due to weather conditions. In the green energy system, only hydroelectric power plants can reliably compensate for the instability of energy production.
At the meeting in the akimat, Nurlan Zhakupov noted that during the construction of energy facilities, Samruk-Kazyna companies need the assistance of local authorities. For example, when allocating land plots for bringing communications to new stations. “There are still unresolved issues on the land - with the expansion of the CHP, for new branches of gas pipelines and railway tracks. In this regard, we expect that all further procedures and issues with land owners will be resolved promptly, transparently, fairly and in accordance with the land”, - Nurlan Zhakupov wrote on Twitter.
The Fund and the regional akimat agreed to work together so that the new Samruk-Kazyna facilities would bring maximum benefits to the region: increased the availability of electricity, created new jobs, and improved air quality.
