Samruk-Kazyna to expand cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

Today, Almasadam Satkaliyev, the Head of the Fund, and Alan Piu, Vice the President of the EBRD, signed the Deed of Guarantee on the project “Modernization of Almaty CHP-2 with minimization of environmental impact” at the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.
The loan agreement between the EBRD and Almaty Electric Stations JSC was signed in November 2022, under which the bank will provide a loan in the amount of KZT130 billion for a period of 15 years, supported by a corporate guarantee of Samruk-Kazyna.
Also, as part of the expansion of areas of cooperation, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed on modernization of the National Electric Grid (NES).
The future configuration of the NES provides for ensuring the energy security of the country, creating conditions for strengthening the electric network of the Southern zone and combining the western energy zone with the UES of Kazakhstan, large-scale involvement of RES in the energy balance, including the wind potential of the Dzungarian Gate and the Shelek corridor by building the necessary network infrastructure.
Development of the NES, in addition to traditional power grid construction, involves the use of digital Smart Grid technologies and energy storage systems.
The parties confirmed their mutual interest in increasing cooperation to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and Kazakhstan’s carbon neutrality by 2060.
