The implementation of most important projects in the energy sector was the subject of discussion at the meeting in Almaty, which took place during the working trip of Almassadam Satkaliyev, the Chief Executive Officer of Samruk-Kazyna JSC to enterprises of the Almaty energy complex.

Energy projects to have been discussed in Almaty

According to the Head of the Fund, energy is a key factor for the development of the country’s economy and Kazakhstan will not be able to develop either industry or other important sectors of the economy without the availability of free energy capacities.

During the meeting, Heads of Samruk-Energy JSC group of companies - Almaty Power Stations JSC and Alatau Zharyk Kompaniyasy JSC presented a wide range of projects being implemented in the region today. In addition, representatives of JSC NC QazaqGaz reported on the progress of construction of the external gas infrastructure for Almaty CHPP-2 and CHPP-3.

Energy projects to have been discussed in Almaty

According to Serik Tyutebayev, the Head of Samruk-Energy JSC, key infrastructure projects in the country’s energy sector are being implemented at Ekibastuz and Almaty energy complexes. A number of new facilities have already been commissioned, as for others, the implementation dates are expected in the period up to 2030, among these projects: 

- Restoration of power unit No. 1 at Ekibastuz GRES-1 with installation of new electric filters, 2023;

- Expansion and Reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2 with installation of Power Unit of Station No.3, 2026;

- Expansion and Reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2 with installation of Power Unit of Station No.4, 2027;

- Construction of Ekibastuz GRES-3, 2028-2029;

- Expansion and reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2 with installation of power units No. 5 and No. 6, 2029-2030;

- Reconstruction of cable networks in Almaty and Almaty region, 2030;

- Development of networks of the Shelek power plant in Almaty region, 2025;

- Construction of the counter-regulating Kerbulak HPP on Ili River of Almaty region, 2026;

- Modernization of Almaty CHPP-2 with minimization of environmental impact; 2026;

- Reconstruction of Almaty CHPP-3 based on the CCGT with increasing the plant capacity up to 544 MW, 2025;

- Expansion of Almaty CHPP-1 with the construction of the 200-250 MW CCGT; 2026;

- Construction of Kokozek substation with connection to the
OSG of Kaskelen SS, 2023.

In addition to technological, procedural and financial aspects, problematic issues and ways to solve them were discussed at the meeting. Following the meeting, the Head of the Fund gave a number of instructions for execution on an urgent basis.
