SAMRUK-KAZYNA JSC to have identified the second package of priority projects

Today, a meeting on the second package of priority projects of the Fund’s Group of Companies was held at Samruk-Kazyna JSC.

The Heads of portfolio companies made proposals to include projects in the urgent list, reported on the status of project implementation, including the proposed financing scheme. The problematic and posed issues planned for discussion with government agencies at the upcoming meeting of the Investment Headquarters were touched upon. Then the projects will be submitted to the Public Council for consideration. After approval of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the projects will be submitted to the Head of State for approval. 

In total, the second package of priority projects included 19 country-scale projects totaling more than KZT16 trillion.

These are projects in the oil and gas industry - production of polyethylene, butadiene and its derivatives, construction of the second line of Beineu-Bozoy-Shymkent MG (Stage 1), development of the Kashagan project for the utilization of crude gas (Stage 2).

Projects in the energy sector include the expansion and reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2 with installation of power units of Stations No. 3 and No. 4, construction of Ekibastuz GRES-3 with installation of power units of stations No. 1 and No. 2 based on clean coal technology, construction of an 858 MW CCGT, construction of a nuclear power plant with a capacity of up to 2800 MW and a comprehensive project on building a new Unified energy system of Kazakhstan.

There are energy projects with participation of international investors – this is construction of a 1 GW wind farm jointly with ACWA Power and a wind farm with an energy storage system with Total Eren.

A project for the construction of a sulfuric acid plant with a capacity of 800 thousand tons per year was also considered.

Development of the railway industry is planned due to construction of a bypass railway line bypassing the railway junction of Almaty station, the Darbaza – Maktaaral railway line and the third border railway crossing on the Kazakh-Chinese border with access to the existing Semei–Aktogai railway section.

In the telecommunications sector, it is planned to implement projects for the construction of a 5G network in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the laying of a trans-Caspian and cross-border fiber-optic highway.

For information: The first package of priority projects consists of 13 projects for about KZT3 trillion. The projects are included in the National Action Plan for the implementation of the President's Address. These are water supply projects in the western regions of Kazakhstan, projects in the field of gas supply, electric power and railway transport development.
