Akhmetzhan Yessimov, the CEO of Samruk-Kazyna JSC and Kairat Kelimbetov, the Manager of Astana International Financial Center signed a memorandum of understanding.

According to the document, the parties, in particular, intend to closely cooperate and consult on listing the shares of the Fund's companies on the AIFC exchange.

“Samruk-Kazyna JSC, one of the main tasks of which is the completion of the privatization program, is extremely interested in the AIFC development. The experience of placing Kazatomprom global depositary receipts has shown its promise as an exchange platform”,- said Akhmetzhan Yessimov, the CEO of Samruk-Kazyna JSC.

In addition, the memorandum provides for the application of the AIFC jurisdiction by including the reservations of the court and the AIFC International Arbitration Center as an institution for the resolution of disputes in agreements concluded by the group of companies of the Fund.

In addition, the Fund and the AIFC intend to use the capabilities of the Expat Center and the AIFC Continuing Professional Development Bureau and collaborate in the field of financial technologies, Big Data, and the development of fintech innovations in the AIFC regulatory sandbox.

“Accelerated digitalization makes the capabilities and services of our platform relevant. This applies to crowdfunding, and the possibility of receiving various support through digital platforms, through digital banks, and the trend towards continuing education, when traditional universities are fully utilizing online platforms. We are ready to support the Fund in its use of our site and resources”, - said Kairat Kelimbetov, the Managing Director of AIFC.

Recall that the Fund and the AIFC are already collaborating in the framework of the Comprehensive Privatization Plan for 2016-2020. At the AIX platform, a successful issue of IPOs of Kazatomprom was carried out: 15% of the shares in 2018 and additional public offerings (SPOs) of 3.8% in 2019 and 6.28% in 2020.

So, international investors showed great interest in the asset: out of 4.3 million Kazatomprom global depositary receipts placed on AIX, foreign institutional investors bought 2.5 million GDRs.
